How to finalize your grades

Online instructors communicate that their grading is complete by finalizing their grades in Populi. Here are the steps to finalizing your grades. If you need any help along the way, please email support@wts.edu.

Before you finalize, consider two things:

  • Grade information automatically syncs from Canvas’s gradebook into Populi, but you may notice some discrepancies. For example, if you edit a grade in Canvas beyond a term's end date, or if your gradebook was set to not include ungraded assignments, Populi will calculate its grade differently.
  • Please make sure your grades in Populi are accurate and reflect the grade you want to give your students in Canvas. These are the grades that land on your students’ transcripts!

8 steps to finalizing your grades

  1. When you've finished grading, find your course in Populi under My Courses. Grades sync about every hour from Canvas to Populi.
  2. Select Gradebook.
  3. Click Final Grade to open and edit grades.
  4. Click Edit Final Grades. Compare your final grades in Populi and Canvas gradebooks, reviewing for accuracy. Make sure everything has been graded. If you continue to notice any desrepancies between grades and Canvas and Populi, please reach out to support@wts.edu for assistance.
  5. Once you're confident that your grades are accurate and align, click Save.
  6. Then click Finalize course.
  7. You can select or deselect all students in bulk by clicking 'Check all students' or 'Uncheck all students', or you can simply check the box labelled Finalize course and all students. After you finalize your grades, changes can only be made by Student Success.

Note: You may finalize your course even if some students grades are not finalized (e.g., a student has been granted an exception to submit late).
  8. You know you're finished when you see this lock image next to your course name 🎉
