Canvas: Your Online Classroom
Canvas is your primary classroom tool! It's accessible from any device and provides the following resources:
- video lectures, syllabus, readings, assignments, and more for each course you are currently enrolled
- small group information, including who your group members are and how to meet using Zoom
- notifications and announcements from your faculty members
You can access Canvas anytime from the Westminster Info Center to sign in or visit canvas.wts.edu. You will use the same username and password you use for Populi.
Using Canvas
Upon signing in to Canvas, you will be directed to a landing page that shows your current courses. Please note that Canvas does not support Internet Explorer.
This home screen contains upcoming deadlines, assignments, and notifications. Click on a course to see the lectures and course materials. The left sidebar offers various other tools and options, including how to find your small group members, a calendar, and your Canvas inbox.
Once you click a course, you can navigate the weekly video lectures and assignments.
Mobile apps
The Canvas mobile app is a great way to watch video lectures and keep up with course calendars and notifications from your mobile devices. Just search for "Canvas by Instructure" in your App Store to download the apps on phones and tablets. Please note that for better functionality of Canvas, the desktop version is preferred.
Note about videos on mobile: If you are using your mobile data connection to watch course videos, you will be responsible for that activity if your data plan has limits or costs associated with it. Also, while our newly designed classes have been optimized for streaming on mobile connections, any older lectures over 2 hours in length may not stream well on an average LTE mobile connection.
